  • Self assembly of protein-polymer block copolymers
    • Modification of antibodies and cytochrome P450 enzymes with synthetic polymers for the creation of protein-based block-copolymers for application to biological sensing and heterogeneous catalysis
  • Complex coacervate core micelles for enzymatic catalysis in non-aqueous solution
    • Determined protein charge parameters for the formation of protein-polyelectrolyte complex coacervates

NSF GRFP Graduate Researcher with Prof. Matthew Francis
University of California Berkeley, 2008-2013

  • Protein-based materials synthesis and evaluation
    • Synthesized multivalent biomolecule-based nanoparticles for the targeted imaging of fibrin by chemically modifing self-assembled, virus-like particles with optical imaging agents and peptide targeting groups
    • Evaluated in vitro binding of the bioconjugate and demonstrated improved binding over monovalent peptide targeting group
  • Bioconjugation reaction development
    • Developed alternative oxidative coupling strategies for attaching synthetic molecules, including peptides, polymers, DNA, and proteins, to aniline-containing and native proteins

Undergraduate Researcher with Prof. Seiichi Matsuda

  • Characterization of natural products of terpene cyclases
    • Isolated the secondary metabolite products using heterologous expression of the enzymes in a yeast strain lacking the native cyclase
    • Generated mutant and chimeric enzymes to gain insight into the mechanism of product formation
